Collectible Guide

Gears (GR)

Gears are mechanical collectibles hidden near off-main-line ramps — often requiring a charged RT jump to reach elevated positions. Harder to spot than charms.

What Are Gears?

Gears are mechanical collectibles that feed into Denshattack!'s train customisation system and the Garage. Each level has either GR2 (2 gears) or GR4 (4 gears) depending on size.

Unlike lucky charms which are on side lanes, gears are often placed at the top of elevated ramps — requiring you to jump off the main track, gain height, and collect the gear before landing back on a rail. This makes them trickier to collect mid-run.

The Happy New Gear achievement unlocks on your first gear, and All Geared Up requires every gear in the game.

Charged Jump Technique

Essential for Gears

Hold RT/R2 longer before releasing to charge your jump for extra height. Most gears are placed just out of reach of a standard tap jump. A charged jump gives you the height needed to reach elevated gear positions. Practice the timing in Trick Park before gear runs.

Gear Collection Tips

Look for Ramp Detours

Gears are almost always near ramps that branch off the main track. When you see an elevated ramp that doesn't seem to lead anywhere useful for scoring — that's usually where a gear is.

Slow Down for Gear Sections

Unlike charm collection which can be done at speed with good lane timing, gears often require deliberate speed management. Use LT to brake slightly before the ramp to set up a clean charged jump.

Gears on Separate Run from Tricks

Gear collection requires leaving the main track — which breaks your trick combo. Always dedicate a separate run to gears rather than trying to collect them during a score or dare run.

GR4 Levels Need Two Passes

On GR4 levels, gear locations are spread across the full track — often too far apart to collect all four in one run without missing some. Map their locations on your first pass, then collect in a dedicated second run.

Shin's Testgrounds — Demo Gears

The demo has GR2 — two gears near off-main-line ramps. Both require a charged jump to reach their elevated positions. Look for ramp branches that seem like dead ends — gears are at the top.
