Denshattack! features dedicated Race events where you compete head-to-head against rival trains. Finishing first unlocks key achievements and progression rewards.
Races are dedicated competitive events where you run a track against one or more rival trains simultaneously. Unlike standard score runs, the primary objective is to cross the finish line first — not to maximise your trick score.
Rivals can be derailed — the Destruction Derby achievement (derail 200 Race Rivals) confirms that knocking opponents off the track is a core part of race strategy. This is separate from your trick combo and doesn't break your multiplier.
Races appear to unlock progressively as you move through the campaign — they're tied to regional gang challenges and storyline encounters with rival Denshattackers.
In a standard run your goal is combo points. In races your goal is crossing the finish first. Prioritise drift boost exits and ultradrift over trick execution — speed matters more than multiplier here.
You can knock rival trains off the track during races. The Destruction Derby achievement (200 rivals derailed) suggests this is an active strategy, not just a bonus. Positioning and lane switching are used offensively.
Master the drift release timing before attempting races. A perfectly timed drift exit gives a significant speed boost — over a full race this compounds into a substantial lead over rivals who brake through corners.
The double drift (LT + left stick while drifting) is essential for maintaining speed through multi-corner sections. Rivals slow down in these sections — ultradrifting through them is where you build your lead.
Press the launch button with perfect timing at the 3-2-1 countdown start to get a speed boost from the line. Getting this right on every race start gives you an immediate positional advantage.
With rivals sharing the track, lane positioning matters. Block rivals on straights by occupying the optimal racing line. Force them into slower outer lanes through corners.
